My husband and I were in Atlanta for a wedding in Decatur, and chose to stay at the Downtown Ritz in order to make our trip a nice get-away for us, but at the same time, an easy commute to the wedding and rehearsal dinner without getting on an Interstate. We were very pleased with our stay and our location was ideal for what we needed to do while we were in town. The hotel room, food, and staff exceeded our expectations. We were very happy with our choice.
We stayed in a renovated room on a high floor. It was spacious, attractive, and extremely clean. They were doing some renovations still, but it did not bother us. We did hear guests (a crowd of at least four) laughing in the room next to us after returning from the wedding in Decatur, but they stopped by 11 pm so we did not need to call the Front Desk to complain. It would have bothered us if it had continued due to the fact that there were several guests in the room and the laughter was annoying. Once a few people left, we never heard anyone in that room til before check-out, and it was no longer an issue.
We had breakfast all three days, and afternoon tea service. The breakfast buffet was delicious, and the high tea ranks as one of my best tea experiences. The breakfast off the menu was average, but it may have been hard to compete with the breakfast buffet.
The staff were always friendly and helpful. We certainly felt home at this hotel. I highly recommend it if you need to be in the downtown area. It certainly met our needs. As previous reviews have mentioned, the area is not the greatest since a safe house is just two blocks away from the hotel, and downtown kind of becomes ghostly at night aside from the Hard Rock and a few other restaurants. With that said, I felt 100 percent safe at this hotel, and they have a wonderful security system in place. It's just not an area that I would want to walk around in at night even though people were doing so. I would prefer midtown followed by Buckhead if I were just sightseeing and eating in trendy restaurants for my stay.
We only had a few glitches such as an unexpected wake up call at 8:15 am on the first morning there. My husband was not happy. We didn't complain because we realized later that probably needed it in order to make breakfast, but we didn't order it. On the last day, the housekeeping staff forgot to restock our coffee and condiments.
Overall, I rank this is a great stay. I would stay there again if I needed to be in Decatur, and wanted something nicer than a Holiday Inn or downtown.
