Just got back from a two week stay at the Waikiki Sand Villa. What a bargain!

All the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The pool area was always tidy and lovely and quiet.

Yes, the breakfast was nothing to write home about, but it was free and fresh and you could always go down the road to Dennys or IHOP if you fancied the full works.

The internet room was excellent. So convenient to check your e-mails or look into trips, though the lady who runs the travel desk in the lobby was more than helpful.

The location was fantastic. Just a short walk to the beach and all the razzle dazzle of Waikiki!


The only negative was the bar. We decided to eat in there one night, but found that the bar staff could not be dragged away from the locals around the bar. The food was acceptable but not great.

Shop around for excursions. We found a round island trip for half the price that Expedia were offering and it was great. We saw everything the other trips were offering and were taken to a great shrimp wagon for lunch.

Would definitely go back to the Sand Villa. For the price it is in an excellent location and has everything you need.

The front desk was very nice, a bit hard to understand if you call for directions. I was only there for a day and a half but i wished I could stay longer. The rooms are basic but the views make up for it and it was definitely nice to dip in the very large and clean pool. the towel racks were empty both times I went to the pool, but I brought my own, that was fine. I let it dry on the beautiful balcony. I never saw breakfast, slept in.... and the parking was valet, but they were all great. I read another review where the bartender was not nice and I had the same experience when the locals were in there, I didn't feel welcomed. Hopefully he got a different job.The Japanese little place, I did try, but it was expensive and I really didn't like it. I should have tried the bar food. Just not enough time! I almost stayed somewhere else for this trip but I'm giving it another try because the price is right and the pool really was great.

We stayed at the Waikiki Sand Villa for two nights while we stopped over in Honolulu before going to Maui. The rooms were clean and quiet. Nothing extravagant but for a place to stay in the center of activity, it did the trick. The pool area was beautiful, we had our continental breakfast there. The breakfast just about held you over until you could go for a real meal. Our only complaint was that one of the two elevators was not working while we were there and the wait sometimes was incredibly long. It was nice to be only two short blocks from the beach and nightlife and the market was equally close. If we ever returned to Honolulu we might stay here again. But we honestly preffered the slower lifestyle on Maui.

I admit I was cheaping out on the first week of our trip to Waikiki but the hotel was a pleasant surprise. Sure the rooms (we stayed in a Pualeilani Studio) needed updating (carpet mostly) but overall it served it's purpose. And like many other times stated, how much time do you spend in your room anyways?
The pool (area) was very pretty and hotel staff (especially maid service) were wonderful and very helpful. My kids loved the breakfast and I found it very handy that we could go grab some toast, yogurt, pineapple, whatever. If you need bacon and eggs every morning, you won't be happy but there is a Denny's up the block. Loved the free internet access and the cheap valet parking! Don't forget to tip...they sure work hard! We didn't eat at the hotel but they made a mean Lava Flow and a very cheap happy hour.
