Boquete is a popular tourist destination and the traveler should feel safe when visiting the city. Although far from Panama City, Boquete shares a history of international travelers visiting the region. As many foreigners have chosen the town for retirement, they are well integrated into the daily life and are part of the town's landscape. Locals are very friendly and will make you feel comfortable.
Anyways, be aware of the occassional opportunist, but, in a small town of Boquete, it is highly improbable that you will be robbed. There is a strong sense of community and people know how important the tourist is to the local economy.
Differently to Caribbean locations, Panama is not in the route followed by hurricanes. Expect heavy and non-stopping rain. If you are driving in this mountainous region, expect landslides. Be careful or better stop until you get an updated report of the condition of the roads from the locals of from television or radio broadcasting. Follow the indications from police and appointed personnel in areas that might be affected by rain.
