When Sochi was first founded it was done so around the idea that tourism would be a major part of the city because of the beneficial waters and air perfect for spa resorts. As it has been a resort town, there are numerous attractions for visitors to enjoy from museums to historical monuments, you can find plenty to do when not enjoying the spa in this warm sea-side city.

The Sochi History Museum is full of artifacts from the earliest ages in the Caucasian Mountain region. The museum has more than 60,000 exhibits as well as changing exhibits and special events.

Art lovers will appreciate the Sochi Art Museum which features painting, sculptures, and more. A small souvenir gift shop is attached.

A local and visitor favorite is the Tree of Friendship Museum which was founded in 1934. The first tree planted was followed by tangerine trees from Japan, a kumquat tree from China, a grape-fruit tree for the U.S. and the garden of trees continues to grow and boasts trees from around the world. The trees represent the friendship among the world. The best time to visit is during the summer when the trees are in full bloom, many with flowers.

The Literary-Memorial Museum honors Nikolai Ostrovsky, a beloved Russian writer.
