Wintergreen is particularly family-friendly.  You can rent a room via the Resort or via private home owners.  Check maps for the location of your property.   Some are further away from the main lodge and are quieter...some may prefer to be closer to the "action".

There is a camp at the Resort--the Treehouse--all year long for kids from 2-14.  A typical camp day includes swimming, crafts, hikes, and games.

Kids can sign up for reasonably priced group or individual tennis or golf lessons and can choose to go on overnight camping trips during the summer.  Horseback riding is also available down mountain.  During the summer they offer "adventure" day trips to locations like ropes courses, frisbee golf, tubing on the James, ice skating etc.  Camp offerings are possible for the day, week, or longer.   Golf camp and tennis camps are popular.   There is an activity center where kids can climb a wall, bungee jump on a trampoline, and do paint tag.  (The tennis instructors have all been incredible ---all professional and dedicated.  Skiing instructors also amazing.  Tennis and ski instructors are particularly skilled at  working with kids.)

Hiking is lovely...weekend guided walks start at the nature center. They try to adjust the hike depending upon the strengths of the participants. The tour guides work to educate hikers on native vs. invasive plant species and geological formations, etc.  Quite fascinating.

In the evenings the resort offers activities for kids such as campfire stories, movie nights or night swims.  Pick up a list of events around the resort.  Or check the Resort website.  the weekends are chockoblock with activities..particularly the busy ones...July 4th fireworks, Memorial Day, Halloween, Christmas.

The resort offers on call babysitters for parents who would like to night out without the kids.  Many of the babysitters are camp counselors or come with a lot of experience so just ask for a babysitter that meets your needs.

There are a number of pools to use...some have a fee if you do not rent via the Resort.  The Spa is totally upgraded and delightful.  Through experience--massages by various therapists have been all superior.  (I am picky.)   The Spa area bathrooms/facilities are serene and quiet.....vs. the regular bathroom facilities for pool users.   (the Spa is linked to a large indoor and outdoor pool facility with multiple hottubs also inside and out.   Nice to be out in a hottub in the winter!)

Skiing is ok there.  Prefer to take kids during the summer.    Much more to do and see!  Plenty of nature to explore if you go off Resort and ask around.   Naturally, the 3-day weekend holidays are the Resort are busiest.  The restaurants can get crowded then at dinner-time so plan ahead.   Otherwise, the restaurants are quite easy to get in to.

The Edge targets mid-range fare--you can get a decent hamburger or salad there.  Also has music on the weekend evenings.  Is comfortable and suitable for everyone.  Nice view of the mountains and snow.

There is a "nicer" restaurant at the Golf Course up mountain that not many tourists know about...it is quieter and the food is a little more upscale.

The Copper Mine Christmas buffet two years ago...the high end restaurant....was lovely.   Fireplaces going etc.  However, it is NOT a place to take the kids on a regular night.   More for a quiet dinner.

Also, if you have babies...bring your supplies up mountain.  Food shopping is very limited/basic.   The closest grocery store is at the base of the mountain in Nellysford....about 15-20 minutes away.   Oh..should put in a plug for the awsome bbq pork place in Nellysford.  It is famous in the area and the food is a treat.  The potato salad is excellent with a dill sauce.  You will see it by the pig sign/sculpture on the left hand side of the road going to Wintergreen!   (just after the Ace hardware store.)    A small lovely bakery next door may still be in operation.  It had gourmet sandwiches/ pastries etc.
